The Palladian course

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

It seems like a sort of an entirely Palladian curse not to see the end of what one's own geniality has finely drawn.

It also happened at Villa Angarano, in the Bassano area, which today leaves us the Palladian symmetrical and harmonious barchesse, once again a symbol of an agricultural activity that is inseparable from the worldly and representative one.

Palladio himself wrote in The Four Books of Architecture that "This place is famous for the precious wines that are made there, and for the fruits that grow in that land and much more for the courtesy of the owner", also testifying to a certain generosity by Giacomo Angarano, his dear friend and client, who, however, following a series of unforeseeable and unfortunate events, was forced to sell the complex.

Therefore the works have never ended according to the architect's project, and the important central body with the prominent facade towards the park in a harmonious geometry will remain only on paper. To console the loss, however, we enjoy the fruit of the vineyards around the estate which today, as in the era of the noble Angarano, still offer very fragrant glasses.
