Hemingway loved Veneto

Hemingway loved Veneto.

He felt at home here, rebellious and curious as he was.

He was never satisfied, he never stopped, but he created the most vivid memories right here.

In the Military, he darted between the trenches on a bicycle, risking his life. In Schio, "the most beautiful place on earth", in Bassano the reckless days at Villa Ca' Erizzo with fellow adventurers, while assisting the ambulances of "Section One." He would bathe in the fresh waters of Piave river and between one assignment and another he would kick a crumpled ball.

Already famous, he enriched the Harry's Bar in Venice with his laughter, he and his inevitable Martini, and then again the Caffè Florian, with other stories to tell. As he said: "I am a boy of the Lower Piave … I’m an old Veneto’s fanatic and I’ll will leave my heart here."
