The Nobles on the River

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

Riviera del Brenta gives us, in addition to memorable naturalistic views, also wonderful examples of noble architecture.

And among the pearls that the river gives us stands out Villa Pisani, in Stra, with its collection of nineteenth-century works of art, paintings, finely decorated rooms. But what fascinates the minds of the dreamers of the world is that little piece of Park, also worthy of particular note, which contains the labyrinth of hedges. To Girolamo Frigimelica de' Roberti around the 20s of the 1700s is due the ideation of the concentric lanes of high hedges and that collimate at the center in the Torretta from which to enjoy a privileged view on the surrounding vegetation. The "Labyrinth of love," so called, is formed by nine concentric circles of boxwood hedges and is inspired by the landscape architecture typical of the '500 and inaugurated by the Gonzaga family at the court of Mantua. Love was right at the center of the labyrinth itself where, for fun, you had to get lost to then find yourself and finally enjoy the company of the beloved.
